Five adult dragon tail types

Morningstartail

A spiked striking head, like a morning star.

Daggertail

A pointed blade suited to piercing.

Swordtail

A long blade shaped for cutting.

Scorpiontail

A curved tip with a stinger.

Clubtail

A heavy blunt end suited to striking.

Tail anatomy is a reference, not a signet formula

These original diagrams show the broad shapes described in book references. They are schematic, not official portraits of generated dragons. The tail on your result should be recorded alongside its color, because two dragons of the same color can have different tails. Do not rename a morningstartail as a clubtail simply because both strike with a heavy end: the first is spiked, while the second is blunt. A signet is a rider ability in the novels; a tail is part of a dragon’s anatomy.

Why Andarna has a separate juvenile entry

Her early gold feathertail appearance belongs to a particular stage in Fourth Wing. It does not establish a seventh game color or a sixth adult game tail. The default game filter therefore uses the community’s six-color, five-tail scope. Select Book characters and a reading level if you want to compare her first appearance with the adult characters. This first index deliberately leaves later transformations out of the searchable cards so that a casual color lookup does not reveal them.

Treat the displayed spelling as your record

The table preserves candidate spellings from the linked wiki. An empty search result means this small reference has no matching entry, not that your dragon is invalid. Retain the text shown by your official profile and, if useful, keep a screenshot. Berradhdyr appears with another spelling, Berradhyr, in community material; those strings are recorded as possible search variants rather than silently merged into one verified official family. This index does not translate names or supply pronunciations.

A shared lineage is not a family tree

A family line can be shared by different individuals without identifying a parent, offspring, sibling or direct connection to a named novel character. Two players with the same listed lineage may still have different dragon names, ages and tails. Keep those fields together when comparing results. A future collection of player cards would need separate individuals and traceable submissions; this reference contains no population count or inferred genealogy.

A practical comparison for a brown swordtail

A player with a brown swordtail can select Brown and Swordtail here to compare that category with book references. Reveal Fourth Wing profiles to see Aotrom in that reference set. Matching those two characteristics is enough for an anatomy comparison, but it does not identify the generated dragon as Aotrom. Save your own name and lineage, then use the card maker for a shareable image. If a field is absent, leave it blank instead of importing a value from the novel character.

Record an encounter separately from a result

Seeing a blue dragon in a meadow is an encounter observation. Bonding a blue dragon is a result. You can log the first even if the attempt ends in death, but it should not be counted as a blue bond. The meadow-blue record explains this distinction beside its source. Using separate labels makes your next route comparison more useful and prevents an encounter screenshot from being mistaken for a completed profile.

What this dragon types index can confirm

A small book index with explicit reading levels

The reference includes twelve named book dragons. Fourth Wing cards identify riders and anatomy, so even a familiar name can reveal a bond you have not reached in the story. Marbh’s rider is gated through Iron Flame. Choose the level of the books you have finished before revealing profiles. This is a starting set for comparison, not a complete Empyrean character database. Chapter references are not supplied because they were not checked against a licensed edition in this research.

Resolve a disagreement without inventing certainty

Two references used for Aotrom describe a brown swordtail; another fan index labels him differently. The card follows the two agreeing references and retains this note. Sgaeyl’s eye color is omitted because the sources disagree. These choices keep conflicting secondary details from becoming confident result-field advice. If you want to verify a disputed book trait, compare the relevant passage in your edition rather than treating a wiki as the book itself.

Color availability does not supply rarity numbers

The author’s FAQ confirms that colors and tails are possibilities. It does not publish a percentage chance for black, blue or any combination in the material checked here. Claims such as “most common” in fan discussions describe an impression or an incomplete sample unless accompanied by an adequate dataset. The filters on this page are navigation aids and cannot calculate a probability for your next run. There are no fake community totals or simulated drop rates.
